A zoo worker in South Africa has been killed by an hungry
lioness while going about his duty. According to Yahoo News, a provincial
conservation agency, Ezemvelo, announced that the attack happened in
Hluhluwe-iMfolozi (shoo-SHOO-weh eem-foh-LOH-zee) park in KwaZulu-Natal
province on Monday, February 15, 2016. The agency spokesman Musa Mntambo
disclosed on
Wednesday that a 45-year-old employee of the zoo was attacked
after walking to a river to turn on a water pump servicing a nearby tourist
lodge. According to him, “He suffered injuries to his neck and thigh and died
instantly,” A colleague his escaped the attack and called for help. Mntambo
said the female lion had tuberculosis and a leg injury, preventing it from
hunting wildlife. The Ezemvelo agency added that park staff killed the lion in
return.
