Genevieve Nnaji whose face has been rare on the movie scene in a recent interview explains why she hasn’t been featuring in new movies these days.
The mother of one who is blessed with a beautiful daughter told Punch saying:
“I guess I haven’t found the right script yet. Creativity and depth are the qualities that I look out for in a script. In the beginning, the movie industry emphasized quantity but things are changing and there is an improvement in trend. I am among the people who advocate for the improvement of the industry. So said, I am constantly watching out for the kind of stories I take part in.“I am in support of movies that show a great deal of professionalism and creativity. Having practised my art in international and professionally produced stories like ‘Ije’; ‘Mirror boy;’ and ‘Tango with me’, I don’t think I can return to the blandness and mediocrity that characterized Nollywood in the past. I have respected myself as an artiste. I think the success stems from the fact that I have given acting my all.
” she said
Genevieve, one of the highest paid Nollywood actresses is an Etisalat ambassador, Amstel Malta ambassador amongst mouth watering other endorsement deals while speaking on her career said: “I don’t see myself as a special person beyond the fact that God has blessed me with a talent that is working for me and I am forever thankful to Him”.
The award winning Imo state born actress, Genevieve who recently turned 35 in May started her acting career at the age of 8 in a popular television soap opera Ripples. When she was 19 years old she was introduced into the growing Nigerian film industry where she acted in a movie “Most Wanted”.
Genevieve who has since featured in over 80 movies some of which are block busters the likes of Half of yellow sun, Tango with Me, Ije, Single and Married amongst others.
She has gained recognition not only in African countries but also internationally. She was the first Nigerian actress to be profiled on the Oprah Winfrey show and labelled by the talk show icon as the, ‘Julia Roberts of Africa.’ She has also appeared on the Cable Network News programme, African Voices. She was recently chosen as Connector of the day on CNN’s Connect the World programme.
