In the video, Beyonce's 27-year-old sister Solange Knowles was caught on surveillance camera lashing out wildly at her brother-in-law, 44, with both her arms and her legs, and even spat at him while her sister stood beside them looking curiously impassive.
The famous family were in an elevator descending from a soiree that followed the annual fashion fest at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

It all went down at a Met Gala after party last week at the Standard Hotel in NYC. In the video ... Jay Z, Beyonce and Solange step into the elevator ... and then Solange goes crazy, screaming at Jay before unleashing a violent attack.
A large man -- who appears to be a bodyguard -- attempts to hold Solange back, but she manages to connect at least 3 times. At one point Solange throws a kick and Jay grabs her foot, but never attempts to strike her. Beyonce stands by without getting physically involved.
It's unclear what triggered the fight.
And this is interesting. When you look closely, you see the bodyguard hit the emergency stop switch on the 12th floor -- mid fight -- presumably to keep the fight private.
All three walked out of the building together -- Solange looks pissed -- but while Bey and Solange get in one car ... security walks Jay to a different one.

What is interesting and impressive is that during the frenzied altercation, Jay Z only grabs her stiletto clad foot to block a kick but never attempts to retaliate.
Beyonce was also sanguine throughout, and appeared to try to calm her sister down. At one point she removes the long train of her dress from the fray.
Solange has admitted to issues with drugs in the past, and cancelled her European tour last year amidst rumours of usage... according to Radar Online. It is however yet unknown what the cause of the violet tantrum was.

Many people on social media have expressed censure over the video saying that Bey, 32, should not have allowed her younger sister disrespect her man like that. Others have however lauded her maturity and calmness, saying that had she done more, the situation could have ended up worse.

For me, I couldn't be more impressed at how Bey and even Jay-Z handled the situation. And Bey, ever the star, still managed to compose herself and smiled for the cameras. Very impressive indeed.
