Nokia releases Lumia 1020 in Nigeria


The eagerly-anticipated Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone is now available in Nigeria.

After weeks of pre-order promotion, the mobile phone manufacturer has launched the gadget in partnership with leading telecommunications service provider, Etisalat Nigeria and the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, Etihad Airways.

It was launched amid pomp and fanfare on a boat cruise in Lagos.

Chris Brown, General Manager, Nokia West Africa, disclosed that the Lumia 1020 was a product of Nokia’s long years of research in imaging technology.

He stressed that based on the level of innovation put into the smartphone, customers, especially camera enthusiasts, were sure to have great experiences.

“We are creating better smartphones that allow lifestyle as well as business consumers capture important moments in pictures with our Pureview technology,” he added.

“In addition to having great experiences while using the device, we have partnered with the most innovative telecoms operator, Etisalat Nigeria to provide customers with seamless experiences while using this device so that they can enjoy fantastic bonuses on the network and get airtime of up to N37 000 when they recharge N10 000 on the easyflex 5000 2 for 1 offer. We have also partnered with United Arab Emirates flag carrier, Etihad Airways to give customers who purchase the Lumia 1020 various discounts on Etihad Airways published or structural fares,” Brown said.

Also speaking at the launch event, Charles Ogunwuyi, Director, Retail Sales at Etisalat Nigeria, said, “Etisalat’s partnership with Nokia for the launch of the Lumia 1020 is a result of shared values by both organizations. The Nokia Lumia 1020 is an improved version of the Nokia 808 smartphone which the company launched in 2012.
Lumia 1020 runs on windows 8 operating system. Its 41-megapixel camera sensor combines with Xenon flash, focus assist light and Nokia's Pro Cam app to make it the most advanced and powerful camera smartphone.

The device is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 4.5-inch 1280x768 (334 ppi) AMOLED display, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage and a 2000MAh non removable battery. It also supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and support for 4G LTE network.
